From its inception to the first commercial prototypes

Starting out as a spin-off company of the University of Pisa – Research Center “E. Piaggio” and the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia IIT, qbrobotics is a research and development company in the field of collaborative robotics, where the needs of the human is at the forefront of every project.

The year was 2011, and considerable has been its evolution since then.

Human-machine interaction as a starting point

In human-machine interactions, one of the main considerations is the safety of the environments where humans and robots work together. Starting from this basis, qbrobotics participated in its first European project: SAPHARI (. The objective was to develop robots with skills to react to human actions, basing its decisions on information coming from sensors or its own skill set.

The company thus began developing soft-robotics prototypes and started the technology transfer process, resulting in the limited-edition Variable Stiffness Actuator (VSA) product line. Within this European experience, qbrobotics capitalized on the acquired experience and know-how of transforming concepts into functional prototypes, paving the way to the future of the company.

The company identity takes shape

In the following years, qbrobotics forged its own values and objectives: spread knowledge to improve everyday life and industrial processes; promote innovation at the basis of the next generation of robots; and make scientific research available to all.

Thanks to substantial research funding, the company implemented a change in its organization, brought in specialized personnel and invested in rapid prototyping machines. In 2015 qbrobotics moved its headquarters to the Polo Tecnologico in Navacchio, outside Pisa, which allowed for creativity and innovation to flourish.

The following year, the branch of research and development started consolidating its presence at an international level.
